Their works are based on common discussions, explorations and experiments and they are all involved in the projects from initial ideas to the final product.
Front’s design objects often communicate a story to the observer about the design process, about the material it is made of or about conventions within the design field. They have made a constantly changing interior, created objects with explosions, robotic furniture and a range of furniture inspired by their fascination with magic.

Front design studio breaks conventions of the design process. “We always question what we do and why we do it,” says designer Charlotte von der Lancken. “There have to be other values than making cheap chairs.” The designer met collaborators Sofia Lagerkvist and Anna Lindgren while studying “hardcore” industrial design at Sweden’s Konstfack College, and together they now create dynamic works, like vases wrapped in layers of foil that can be stripped away, a table that collapses over the course of months, or a light bulb that is actually a bubble.

This project called Surface Tension Lamp is based in the creation of a bubble that is brief, and bursts at your touch. But while it lasts, it catches the light and reflects the room like a multi-coloured temporary structure. They wanted to create a constantly changing lamp that combines the most ephemeral of lampshades with an LED light source that will last for 50000 hours. In the time it takes the LED to burn out, the lamp will have had 3 million different globe shades. The Design Museum in London have nominated the Surface Tension Lamp for the Designs of the Year 2013. Surface tension lamp will be included in the Designs of the Year exhibition at the museum from 20 March 2013.
