INTERIOR DESIGN COLOR SCHEME STARTING TIPS

Decorating a home can be quite a bit of a headache if you’ve never had to do it before. You will need a good bit of tips and tricks in mind if you want to make it look good and attractive to the eyes. All it takes is knowing what needs to be done to make it seem more roomy and pleasant. The color scheme of a home will play a great deal in its future. You can use the right combination of colors to make a home feel more comfortable after a moving experience or you could make things a whole lot worse. Follow these and more tips to get an idea what you can do to avoid the latter:

You can draw a palette from a large, patterned piece as an inspiration. It could be a rug, piece of art or even a piece of furniture. You can use that as a base for what you want to work with. Starting from it, you can work on matching the colors of the pattern with the rest of the room, allowing for a more cohesive look overall.

You can work on the rooms by employing a rule that follows the 6:3:1 ratio. You can devote up to sixty percent of the room’s colors to a single, dominant color, thirty percent to something secondary and about ten percent for accenting colors. This will help you maintain a good visual balance that never goes overboard with a chaotic mix of colors or a dull monotone of neutral ones either. You should aim for a more neutral color for the dominant hue, especially one that has low saturation. The secondary one can be brighter, but it should be the accent color that shines in the scheme. This also applies to pretty much all areas of design you might be dealing with.  The same even goes for clothes, such as suits where shirts represent about 30% of the design colors with the tie being the last 10% compared to the major colors of the suit itself.

You should pay special attention to the vertical gradient of the color scheme you’re going for. Ceilings are always painted in brighter colors than the walls as to create the illusion of an indoor sky, plus not doing so would make the rooms appear darker and more unpleasant. The darker colors should always be picked for the lower parts of a room, such as rugs, coffee tables and flooring. Make sure you keep the ceiling light and this will make the rooms much more pleasant to behold.

You can take decoration cues from your wardrobe, especially if you’re confused as to what colors you want to choose. Your wardrobe directly mirrors your favorite colors and combinations, giving you valuable insight into what you can work with. Since these colors match your tastes and your complexion, then you can use that knowledge to your advantage in making your home more interesting overall.
