I’m fascinated by the exquisite pieces from Joseph Walsh. Joseph’s work and his inspiration come from his environment and his origins. Having the studio in Cork, Ireland, is very good in that respect, where he designs and makes unique handcrafted furniture, that blurs the bounderies between art and function. Regarded as one of Irland’s best designers, his furniture has been commissioned internationally and his work has been exhibited at the most prestigious galleries and design shows.
Joseph Walsh Studio has been working since 2000, and it has started working in the USA about three years ago. Walsh’s design approach stemmed from this intimacy with wood, the techniques he had mastered and the combined potential to create structures and form. Today, this experience and fluency with techniques allow him to start at a more conceptual point and explore its many interpretations Joseph Walsh believes that the intention of his work is to create one of a kind exquisite objects that bring pleasure to people’s lives. “Three-dimentional objects that you can actually live with.”
Joseph Walsh showcased at Designs Days Dubai. His celebrated Enignum canopy bed was crafted from just two pieces of wood. Joseph stripped the wood into thin layers, manipulating them into a sculptural form that embraces and protects the user. I cannot miss it!
