Cafe Rouge, London
Cafe Rouge is a 25 year old brand with 125 restaurants across its estate. We were asked to revolutionize this iconic British favourite and so we approached this project with great sensitivity to its heritage, yet we also wanted to inject creativity, innovation and attention to detail. Inspired by the infamous Hotel Du Nord and other classic, urban, bohemian Parisian bistros located around the Canal St Martin area in Paris, we created a new brand world and design concept based on heritage, authenticity, quirkiness and humour.
Oriel, Heathrow Airport, Terminal 3
The Oriel on Sloane Square had been one of London’s most loved brasseries for almost a quarter of a century. Inspired by the new location airside at Heathrow Airport, AfroditiKrassa created a concept that celebrated the 1930s Art Deco movement, a period in history when travelling was a beautiful luxury. For inspiration, the team visited some of Europe’s grandest Art Deco cafés, took pictures, sampled the food, and soaked up the atmosphere.
The studio painstakingly analysed the surface finishes, the materials, the textures and colours of these glorious spaces to find out what made them so grand and alluring.
Subtly exotic and classically urban, Dishoom is a far cry from UK Indian restaurants, avoiding all expected clichés that come hand in hand with the territory. From the beginning it was clear that we didn’t want to have any stereotypes, and wanted to design something totally unexpected. Some months of research and a few trips to Bombay later, the Dishoom identity was born. The studio drew from the city’s rich past and the old and fading Irani cafés, street stalls and other down-to-earth eateries. The final result reflects Bombay’s unexpected and classic charm, yet respecting the overlooked beauty of everyday India.
itsu is a retail brand we helped to conceive in 2004; we came up with the concept, branding, interiors and retail packaging. Then in 2011 we were called back to help move the company to the next level. Even though itsu is about Asian food, the focus of the brand is on the lightness and quality of their product . We used Richard Philbb’s beautiful portrait photography on packaging and throughout the store to reflect this focus on wellbeing and turn a traditional food brand into an unconventional lifestyle brand.
Vini Italiani, London
Vini Italiani is a retail merchant specialising in Italian wines. They approached us because they wanted to expand their brand experience and spread their “culture of wine”. We were tasked with redesigning their shop to accommodate for actual wine sampling and a bar element, as well as expanding their brand to establish themselves as THE UK’s experts in Italian wine. The space needed to reflect the dual aspect and the continuous use throughout the day, as well as provide flexibility for special events and sessions.
